Dive into our FAQs to gain a deeper understanding of our unique coaching approach, the benefits for your child, and how we’re committed to their authentic social success. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to guide and assist.

While we specialize in coaching, we do not provide therapy. The primary difference lies in the approach and the goal. Therapy often delves into emotional healing, understanding underlying issues, and exploring past experiences to address current challenges. Coaching, on the other hand, is forward-focused, centered on building skills, setting specific goals, and creating actionable strategies to achieve them. If your child is already seeing a therapist, and the therapist is on board, we can collaborate to reinforce our coaching strategies.

Our program is specifically tailored for twice-exceptional children, often referred to as “quirky” or “differently wired”, as well as those who are bright or intellectually advanced. This includes children with classic diagnoses like autism, ASD, or Aspergers, who may experience social deficits. We also cater to the profoundly gifted – think of the third grader who immerses himself in Shakespeare, significantly surpassing his same-age peers in cognitive abilities. Such children often find it challenging to fit into conventional social coaching settings. Additionally, our program emphasizes anti-bullying techniques, empowering children with the tools to navigate social situations confidently and reducing the chances of being bullied.

We empower children to achieve their individual social goals without pressuring them to adopt typical behaviors. Our guidance revolves around providing strategies, not enforcing behavioral norms. We carefully avoid language that could suggest masking, such as “should,” “good,” or “normal.”

Every child is unique, and our focus is always on aligning with the child’s individual goals and desires.

Our coaching primarily begins by addressing immediate concerns, such as equipping children with tools to handle bullying or aggressive interactions. For some children, the primary goal isn’t necessarily making friends, but rather feeling confident and secure in social situations. If your child feels 100% content with their current social life and doesn’t see a need for change, then our coaching might not be necessary for them right now. However, should they ever feel the need for support in navigating the complexities of social interactions, we’re here to help.

We prioritize language comprehension and personal social goals over age. In other words, we recognize that a child’s physical age may not always match up with their social and cognitive abilities. Every child matures at their own pace, and some might be ahead in certain areas while needing guidance in others. Therefore, while we consider the child’s age, we place greater emphasis on their development.

Children should possess at least a third-grade language comprehension level and have their own social goals as well as a concept of friendship. Birth date is not a primary consideration in asynchronous children.

If available, a recent neuropsych evaluation can be insightful. Additionally, an adult familiar with the child (parent, coach, teacher) should detail the current social interactions relevant to the child’s goals.

While not mandatory, homework is flexible and created with input from the child and parent. Assignments are designed to be manageable and completed at the outer edge of a child’s comfort zone. Initially, homework may involve only observing the interactions of other children. This adds validity to the concepts and creates confidence; it may not be necessary for all children. Additionally, should a child have a more stressful or challenging week, parents may suspend homework.

Absolutely. Think of us as the “urgent care” for social skills. If your child is on a waiting list for a social skills group, we can provide prompt interventions to help them navigate challenging situations, such as bullying. Our approach is about early intervention.

For twice-exceptional (2e) children, our service is even more specialized: we delve deep into understanding their needs, offering individualized guidance to decipher intricate social codes. We’re not just about quick fixes, but also about offering a comprehensive, niche approach for those who require it.

We are familiar with PEERS and Social Thinking materials, and can offer their strengths (systems analysis) in a way that avoids ABA “masking”.

At 2e Kids Coaching, we believe in the profound influence parents have on their children’s social development. We offer a range of involvement options tailored to individual needs. Parents can choose to have their child attend sessions independently, accompany their child during sessions, or even attend sessions on their own to gain insights and strategies. This flexibility ensures that parents have the opportunity to be as engaged as they wish, understanding that their participation can be a pivotal factor in the success of the coaching process.

Yes. At 2e Kids Coaching, we recognize the diverse needs of twice-exceptional and profoundly gifted children. Rather than imposing a rigid 12 or 16-week program, we offer a flexible menu of evidence-based strategies and topics. This empowers families to focus on the areas that resonate most with their child’s unique social aspirations. We understand that not all children will benefit from, or have the patience for, an extensive course. Our goal is to provide targeted, ecologically valid strategies that cater to individual friendship goals, ensuring every child thrives on their own terms.

Our coaching sessions are conducted entirely via Zoom, allowing for flexibility and accessibility from the comfort of your home. This virtual model ensures that regardless of your location, your child can benefit from our tailored strategies and insights. It’s also a convenient option for families with tight schedules or those who prefer the convenience of online interactions. All sessions maintain the same level of dedication, personalization, and effectiveness as in-person meetings.

We understand that financial considerations are important. Currently, we do not accept insurance for our coaching services. Our pricing is structured based on the individualized nature of our sessions and the expertise we offer. We recommend reaching out to us directly for detailed pricing information.

We do not have a sliding scale, but we do offer pro bono single sessions for eligible candidates. If you require this, please indicate your needs in the application form’s free text box.
